Shirley Woods Oliveto, 79, of Elkridge, Maryland passed away May 31, 2015. Viewings will be held at Donaldson Funeral home in Laurel, Maryland on June 3, 2015, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church in Laurel on June 4, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Reverend Monsignor Michael Mellone officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Shirley Jean Woods was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania on May 3, 1936. Upon graduating high school in 1954, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a secretary for the corporate office of People’s Drug Store until she married in 1958 and began her family. In 1961, Shirley and her husband moved to Laurel, Maryland where they raised their six children. Shirley began working as a home typist for Arbitron in 1974 and retired 22 years later as a manager in its Survey Mailing Department. In 1999, she and her husband moved to Ocean Pines, Maryland where they enjoyed 15 years of retirement and beach living. In 2014, Shirley and Joseph moved to Elkridge to be closer to their children. Shirley enjoyed crafting, bird-watching and, most of all, spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and they fondly called her “Bubba.”
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mildred; brothers, Richard Edmiston, Donald Woods and Evert Woods; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth A. Oliveto.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Joseph Oliveto; three sons, Joseph, Anthony and Nicholas (Claudia); three daughters, Jean (Michael) Plants, Teresa (Stephen) Lipcsey and Nancy (John) Fama; ten grandchildren Charles Rutherford, Peter Oliveto, Katherine Plants, Caroline Rutherford, Julia Plants, Alyssa Lipcsey, Grace Oliveto, Christine Rutherford, Kristen Lipcsey and Clara Oliveto. She is also survived by her sister, Judith Fedoruk and her brother, Robert Woods.
