Sonia Bohonis Thompson

Sonia Bohonis Thompson, age 83, passed away in her home of 60 years in Laurel, Maryland on March 13, 2023 shortly after the loss of her dear husband, Robert Thompson in late 2022.

Sonia was born on April 11th, 1939 in Washington D.C., the daughter of John and Evlynn Bohonis. She grew up in Hyattsville, Maryland and attended Northwestern High School where she met the love of her life, Robert “Laddie” Thompson. Sonia and Laddie married in 1957 and made their home in Laurel, Maryland where they raised their three children Connie, Sally, and John. For decades, Sonia worked alongside her husband at RL Thompson Electric, which still thrives today under the leadership of their son John Marshall Thompson. She loved coaching her daughters’ softball teams and watching her son play football.

Sonia cared deeply about her community, teaching aerobic dancing for countless years, working the polls during elections and acting as President of the Laurel Garden Club. She was also an active member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and taught Sunday school.

She will be remembered as the world’s best Grammy to Meghan (deceased), Caroline, and Bobby Bowman, Bridget, John, and Jennifer Linsenmeyer, for her amazing backrubs, epic Easter egg hunts, Thanksgiving mashed potatoes, famous mud pies and for always having a Snickers in the freezer.

Sonia will also be remembered for her many gifts; painter, poet, and party-planner. She loved her friends. Most importantly, Sonia will be remembered for her unconditional love for and devotion to her entire family.

Sonia Bohonis Thompson is survived by children Connie and husband Rob Bowman, Sally and husband Steve Linsenmeyer, and John and wife Joanna Thompson; grandchildren Caroline, Bobby, Bridget, John and Jennifer; great-grandson Beau Baxter; and half-sister Cynthia Mackley. Sonia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evlynn Bohonis; granddaughter Meghan Bowman, brother John Bohonis, and husband Robert Thompson.

Services will be held at 12pm, April 11th, 2023 at St. Philip’s Church in Laurel, Maryland.
