Theodore "Ted" Langstine passed away at 95 on March 12, 2022 at Arbor Terrace in Fulton, Maryland. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy, and his two daughters, Donna and Joyce, who have always been "his girls". His sons-in-law, David Kistler and Thomas Edwards both knew and loved him since they were teenagers. He also leaves behind four grandchildren; Eben, Aaron, Sarah, and Dana; and three great grandchildren.
Ted was born in Paterson, N.J. on September 4, 1926. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Morrison. He enlisted in the Navy at 17 and served proudly and honorably in World War II. After the war, he graduated from Rutgers with a bachelor's degree in accounting under the GI Bill.
Ted was always a people person. Because of his innate ability to relate to anybody. he could meet someone and within 15 minutes know their entire life story.
His girls were emphatically non-athletic but Ted was eternally a good sport and was instrumental in founding and later coaching the local little league program in Oakland, N.J.
After retiring to Little Egg Harbor, N.J., he spent his days on the water fishing. Whenever he could, he would have his grandchildren join him, packing a cooler with mini-coffee cakes and Capri Suns to incentivize them to get moving at the crack of dawn. He taught them how to fish and let them touch all the bait they wanted, but was always the only one to touch a hook or scale a fish. He taught them how cool blowfish were and that you always throw back the ones that don't meet regulation.
In Little Egg Harbor, Ted discovered a love for woodcarving and was a member of the LBI Woodcarvers. His family is glad to have his "freaking flock", the many birds he created, as a tangible remembrance of a loving man.
Always a giving person, Ted was the first one to offer help to anyone in need. Two of his favorite charities were Wounded Warriors and the ASPCA. For their help through this difficult time, we wish to thank the Arbor Terrace caregivers, Gilchrist Hospice, and HomeWell Care Services.
Ted touched many people's lives. He was well loved, well respected, and will be deeply missed.
