Thomas H. Bresson, 92, of Severna Park, MD passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday May, 3 2026. He was the son of Henry and Margaret Bresson of Torrington, CT.
He graduated from Torrington High School in 1951, St. Bonaventure University in 1955, and Georgetown Law School in 1959. With his law degree in hand, he joined the U.S. Navy as a Legal Officer where he served in Seattle, WA, Astoria, OR, and at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA until 1963.
In 1962 he met his wife Marjorie at an Officer’s Club Social in Washington D.C. The two got married in February,1963 and they remained united in faith, family and a lifelong partnership until her death in 2022. Later in 1963, Tom entered the FBI Training Academy and became an FBI Special Agent where he served in many interesting roles at a critical time in our nation’s history. His assignments took him to stops in Columbus, OH, St. Petersburg, FL, Monterrey, CA and Washington D.C. before retiring in 1986. Upon his retirement he embarked on a second career as the Chief of Security Services with the Smithsonian Institute until he retired in 1996.
A devout catholic rooted in his faith, Tom cherished his family and, with Marge, raised a family of four children. In 1972, they moved to Laurel, MD where they became parishioners at St. Mary of the Mills Church. There, he was active with the Knights of Columbus and the Laurel Advocacy Referral Services (LARS). He was also a eucharistic minister.
Tom was sociable and had a particular interest in current affairs, foreign events, politics, and legal matters. He enjoyed listening to classical and jazz music and watching all sports – especially the local teams. He was an avid reader and golfer – shooting his first hole in one at age 83. He and Marge enjoyed traveling to numerous countries around the world and found special joy while sipping wine at their happy place- Hilton Head Island, SC.
He especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren while attending their games, concerts, graduations, and other events.
He is survived by his brother Ed (Marilyn) of Norfolk, CT, son Daniel F. Bresson (Cindy) of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; daughter Mary-Claire Burick (Greg) of Falls Church, VA; son Paul E. Bresson (Julie) of Severna Park, MD, and daughter Michele R. Bjelac (Samuel) of Arnold, MD.
