Vincent J. Scalco

Vincent Joseph Scalco, Dec 2, 1934-Nov 16, 2016 born in Washington DC, will be remembered for his strong commitment to God, family and a passion for service to others. He was a beloved son, brother, nephew, father and husband to the late Betty Ann (Proctor) Scalco. Born to parents Salvatore and Dorotea Scalco. Vincent retired as a foreman with Pepco after 34 years of service. A devout Catholic ,belonged to various organizations. He led the DeMatha Senior Boosters Club as president from 1975 until his death. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with their sports and music programs. He was a pillar in the Maryland City Community where he and Betty raised nine children. He was a founding member of the Maryland City Booster club where he coached his sons in multiple sports. He also was a charter member of the Sons of Italy, Antonio Gatto Lodge where he was president, enjoyed cooking at various festivals and sang in the choir.  He was a longtime member of the Laurel Moose Lodge and the Oldest Inhabitants of Washington D.C. He was a lifelong Washington Redskins season ticket holder and New York Yankees fan. His hobbies included fast pitch softball and golfing. Vincent is survived by his sons John (Sheryl), Steve (Nancy), Roy (Pam), Bobby (Judy), and Michael, daughters Teresa (Chris) and Dora (Chisa) and daughter in-laws Mary and Amy along with grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored. In addition to his wife, Betty Vincent is predeceased by his sons Joe, Nicky, grandsons Robert and Bobby, his parents, siblings Josephine, Rito, Nicolo, Teresa and Mother in law Elizabeth Proctor. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Brendan Looney Convocation Center at DeMatha High School on Tuesday from 4-6 pm at which time a funeral mass will be held. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Cemetery in Laurel, Md.
