Vira L. Olivito, a longtime resident of Laurel, passed away at Lorien Elkridge on September 22, 2015. She was 94. She was born on July 13, 1921, in Carson, Virginia to the late Harry and Carrie Edwards. Vira loved to be out in her yard and garden and also liked sewing, crochetting, playing cards and was just a wonderful person to sit and chat with.
Vira worked all of her life in many different fields. She worked for the United States Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland, for 34 years as a lab technician doing drug testing for NIH. She was involved in the research for numerous publications such as "Swine Biomedical Research" and "Food Science".
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony P. Olivito, her son, Tony L. Olivito, and 7 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte J. Souder; 4 grandchildren Susan Wise, TJ Olivito, Missy Souder and Carrie Olivito; and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Grace Adams and Dotty Snipes.
Funeral and burial services will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015 beginning at 2 pm at the Meadowridge Memorial Park Cemetery, 7250 Washington Boulevard, Elkridge, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Laurel.
