Walter Leroy Hofmeister, Jr. age 92 of Baltimore, Maryland passed away on Tuesday March 4, 2025.
He was the son of the late Walter Hofmeister Sr. and Alma Hofmeister, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Hofmeister (nee DiNisio). Devoted father of Walter Laurence (Larry) Hofmeister and wife Amy, Lisa Dombrose and husband Dick, Carole Smith and husband Richard. Loving grandfather of Andrew, Eric and wife Ali, Clyde and Emma. And great grandfather of Juan Carlos.
Walt grew up in Hampden and graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1950. He served in the Navy from 1952-1956 as an electronics technician on the USS Albany CA 123 and benefitted from the GI Bill; completing his BS in Electronics Engineering through 6 years of night school at Johns Hopkins University. He worked at Westinghouse and Hopkins APL contributing to work on early radar technology and then as a Sales Manager, retiring from the analytical instrumentation firm Perkin Elmer in 1995. He retired to Ocean City, Md and Tampa, Florida. He was married to Betty for 42 years, to Martha DeSanctis for 12 years and cared dearly for Diane Winn for 4 years.
He found joy in so many things over his long life including playing tennis and golf, coaching rec basketball, passionately watching and attending baseball games (Go O’s), Terps basketball and Ravens games, doing musical theater and performing in many groups including The Harmonizers, singing with Emmanuel Lutheran Church & Charlestown Choirs, competing on bowling and bocci ball teams, traveling the world, playing poker, drinking Manhattans and eating great food with gusto.
