On a most beautiful, snowy morning at Manor Care, Potomac, Maryland, Waveney Ruckmin Ramson was heard singing just before she took her final breath. It was bright and early on Saturday, December 29, 2012, the gates of heaven opened its doors to receive A Most Loving Spirit.
Waveney was born on July 19, 1923, in Plaisance, Guyana. In her earlier years, until 1959, she was the backbone of a family restaurant she operated with her husband in Georgetown, Guyana while raising 10 of her 13 children. In addition to her working and taking care of her children, she was always cooking and feeding her nieces, nephews and those in need. After giving birth to 3 more children over the following 10 years, she immigrated to North America in early 1970s, and lived her years in Canada and the United States, where she retired from Hecht's. She took great pride in working, never missed a day of work, was always on time and was always willing to work overtime. She loved living in Attick Towers in College Park, Maryland. Her favorite activities included cutting coupons, shopping, playing bingo, playing slots at the casino, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Price is Right, E! News, Entertainment Tonight, QVC, Dancing with the Stars, Oprah, Good Morning America ---and all day Church Services on Sunday. Most of all, she truly loved her independence. Even though Waveney did not drive, she took great joy in riding public transportation to work (rain, sleet or snow) and to shop.
Waveney was a wonderful matriarch for the entire Ramson family. She was fully engaged with and supportive of all of her children; and, loved to hear from and interact with all her grandchildren and their children. On holidays, she liked to stay at home to make sure she was available when they visited and called. Fashion was also very important to her. She took great pride in her looks, wardrobe, hair, nails, makeup (loved her Lancome and Estee Lauder) and loved to adorn herself with her gold jewelry collection.
Waveney was preceded in death by her husband Joseph W. Ramson, and survived by her 13 children, Jean Zimmer, Gloria Gorringe, Lloyd Ramson, Indira Hairston, Sally Manns, Charles (Bonnie) Ramson, Joseph Ramson, George Ramson, Indrani Ramson-Malley, Rajkumarie (Raj) Ramson, Kamla Branche, Shanta (Jackie) Ramson, Rabindranauth (Robert) Ramson, and her step-son, Romeo Ramson. She is also survived by her son-in-laws, John Zimmer, Jim Gorringe, George Hairston, Earl Manns, Raymond Malley, George Branche, and Russell Davis and daughter-in-laws, Jean Ramson, Leila Ramson, Yasmin Ramson, and Robin Floyd-Ramson. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
