William Henry "Bubba" Coon, Jr.

On the morning of July 14, 2015, Billy Coon bravely and peacefully passed away at home in Scaggsville, MD as a result of complications from diabetes and kidney failure.  As a double amputee, he has been comforted and cared for at home by family members and medical associates for the past 3+ years.  He was 79 years old.  Born December  17, 1935 in Laurel, MD, he was the first child of  William H. and Mildred Coon. William was known to most as “Billy” or “Bubba” and lived most of his life in Scaggsville, MD.  He served 3 years in the United States Army from Feb 1958 - Feb 1961.  He worked as a sheet metal mechanic for many years; then, retired from a position as a Security Guard at the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).   Billy was a diehard Baltimore Oriole’s fan.  He also enjoyed football and horse racing. He loved to fish, hunt, cook, golf and was known by many for growing the best vegetables in town! Mr. Coon was preceded in death by his father William, mother, Mildred, brother Harry Coon and sister Bonnie Yestingsmeier.  Mr. Coon is survived by his beloved wife, Betty L. Coon of 57 years, brother Kelly Coon, sister Kathy Cheak, 3 daughters Dora Crouse, Donna Horst, and Janice Elliott, and 7 grandchildren.  He will be missed by many.
