Bettye Bush Poole was born in Boiling Springs, SC, on January 18, 1933, to Paul and Luna (Lawter) Bush. She was predeceased by her husband, William T. Poole, and beloved siblings Wofford Bush, Alvis Bush, Alton Bush, Leo Bush, and Lee Bush.
As a young woman, Bettye attended Boiling Springs High School which prepared her for an extremely interesting professional career. Bettye traveled and embraced many paths as she built full and rewarding careers in banking, property management and in the Federal Government.
In 2016, Bettye retired from the Central Intelligence Agency as an Executive Special Assistant after 27 years of service. During that time, she received numerous awards for her support -- one of which was for her efforts on initiatives in the aftermath of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks. She traveled to Africa as support staff for a mission in her first five years at the Agency.
Following her retirement, Bettye lived in Laurel, near family, enjoying many activities and hobbies, including playing dominos, Scrabble and card games. At an earlier time in her life Bettye was a champion bowler.
She was an accomplished seamstress and was admired by many for whom she made majorette costumes. Bettye had a love of collecting dolls, poodles, giraffes, and lucky symbols. She had a deep love and concern for animals, especially poodles.
None of those pastimes, however, brought her more pleasure than spending time with her daughter, Pam, and being surrounded by her whole family.
On Monday, September 19, 2022, at age 89, Bettye Poole departed her earthly bounds to rejoin her God.
She leaves to cherish her memory her family, who were the joy of her life: a devoted daughter, Pamela Lloyd and son-in-law Royce “Sam” Lloyd of Laurel, MD; stepdaughter, Sarah Poole Stutts (Ross) of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, Jessi A. Collins (Dan) of Odenton, MD and Chelsie J. King (Jeremy) of Germantown, MD; great-grandsons Wesley Collins and Phoenix King; and nephew, Michael Bush, and nieces, Priscilla Bush Bowen, Debby Bush of Spartanburg, SC.
