Edward Joseph Terech, 77, a 47-year resident of Laurel, MD passed away on March 13, 2018 after a protracted effort to control acute myeloid leukemia. He was a long time member of the St. Mary’s of the Mills Parish. Ed was born in Windsor, Ontario, and grew up in Toronto. He attended Christ the King College of Western Ontario University. At the age of 21, he came to the US and joined the Air Force, volunteering to be deployed four times. He subsequently met his wife of almost 49 years in Rochester New York, while working for Eastman Kodak. Following their move to Maryland, Ed became active in community affairs, serving several years as President of the Maryland City Civic Association and as a basketball and baseball coach long before his own boys were old enough to participate. He was also instrumental in starting the Maryland City Soccer Program. Ed also served the community through the Knights of Columbus, serving as Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree, the American Legion, the Sons of Italy, and as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America. Ed is survived by his wife, Virginia; by their two sons and their spouses, David (Sonia), Pete (Heather), his grandchildren, Nicole (Greg) Brunner and Alexys, Kevin, and Matthew Terech, as well as his sister, Victoria Sears, and his nieces,Lorimer, Robin and Madison, and a long list of people who consider him family. He was preceded in passing by his sister, Sophia (Zosh), and his parents Joseph and Harriette. The family is receiving visitors on Friday, March 16 at Donaldson Funeral Home in Laurel. A Mass of Christian Burial is being held at noon on March 17 at St. Mary’s of the Mills. Following the mass he will be forever laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, to consider a donation to St. Mary’s of the Mills, or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.
