Elizabeth (Betty) P. Girvan, age 90 of Laurel, Maryland, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2020. Betty was the daughter of the late Dorothea Pike (Ealer) and Harold R. Pike. She married William (Bill) H. Girvan in 1961 at St. Mary of the Mills Church in Laurel. She is survived by her (maternal) cousin, George Ealer, his son Jeffrey Ealer, and her (paternal) cousin, Priscilla Pike. She is also survived by her close, longtime friend, Mary Anne Gertson and her son, David Gertson.
Betty graduated from the Pennsylvania College for Women in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and worked for 40 years at the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland, rising to the level of Senior Executive Analyst.
A faithful member of her congregation, she joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in 1963, worshiping regularly until she could no longer physically attend. Betty is remembered for her quick mind, her strong opinions, and her deep commitment of her Lutheran roots. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill, and will be laid to rest beside him at Arlington National Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and precautions, in lieu of a formal service at this time, a private gathering of close family and friends will be held at a later date to honor Betty’s memory.
