Elizabeth Anne (Betty) Killmon (nee Thompson) Obituary

Elizabeth Anne Killmon (nee Thompson) (Betty) (91) of Laurel, MD, passed away after a full life on March 10, 2021.  She was born on April 3, 1929, to Vincent Hazel Thompson and Agnes Walburg Rollins Thompson in Washington, DC.

Betty was a graduate of St. Teresa’s School and St. Cecilia’s Academy and worked briefly at Kann’s Department Store as a switchboard operator and gift wrapper and at Mars Furniture Store as the owner’s secretary prior to her marriage to John  Robert Killmon, Sr., (Jack) on June 24, 1950.  She also worked at Carol Ann, a millinery shop in the old Laurel Shopping Center, part-time in the late 1960s and participated in a bowling league for more than 30 years.

Betty loved her husband of nearly 69 years and life partner for 73 years, Jack, who she missed immensely after his death in 2019, and her family and friends.  She loved reading, travelling, trip planning and navigating on trips; crocheting (making afghans and clothing, mostly for other people and their children and grandchildren); bowling; hummingbirds; children; kittens; camping and RVing; shopping at JCPenney and later in life through catalogs; roller skating; dancing; historical adventures; family and friends get-togethers; bird watching; flowers; eating hard-shelled crabs; the beach, especially Ocean City, MD; boat rides (if she could see the shore); baby showers, bridal showers, weddings and funerals (only to connect with long-unseen loved ones).  Betty was feisty, energetic and very passionate in living her life with her family and friends.  Betty was a very giving and conscientious person.  Her last catalog purchase was gifts for her next door neighbors’ twins’ birthday, which is the day before hers and which she knew she wouldn’t live to see.

Betty is survived by sons John, Jr., Thomas (Kathy), and Joseph; daughters Karen Killmon-Doucet (Dean Doucet) and Lou Ann Killmon Wingo; grandsons Donald Antoine, Lucas Doucet and Jeremy Killmon and granddaughters Melinda Pulley (Rocky), Nicole Taurone and Kristin Killmon (Patrick McAlevey) ; great-grandchildren Kayleigh and Derek Pulley and Liam McAlevey; and great-great-grandchild Varian Baldwin; and by sisters Dolores Thompson Pearce (George Graham) and Angela Rose Woods (Charles).  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Mary Agnes Crouch and Antoinette C. McElligott and brother Vincent Joseph Thompson.  Viewings will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD.  Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at 12 noon at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, 114 St. Mary’s Place, Laurel, MD.   Interment will be at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD.  Memorial donations may be made in Betty’s name to Boys Town in Omaha, NE or to the SCPA.
