Ella May Kearney, a stay at home mother of five and original resident of Maryland City, passed away on January 22nd after suffering from a broken hip. She was 83.
Born at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC and raised in Northeast Washington, she attended St. Martins Catholic school and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. She was the daughter of William Hurley, a machinist for the railroad in Washington and Ella May Hurley, a homemaker.
She was a devout Catholic, enjoyed gardening and maintaining her yard, playing catch with her grandsons in the back yard, watching the Orioles, swimming and spending vacations at the beach with family and friends. Her home was always open to neighbors and the kids of the neighborhood, past and present.
She is survived by her sons John D. Kearney, Chris Kearney, and Joe Kearney, daughters-in-law Bonnie Kearney, Ann Kearney and Shawn McCarthy, grandsons Blair Tennant, Patrick Kearney, Ryan Kearney and Jack Kearney, and great grandson Ryan Shumaker. She is also survived by her brother Alfred Hurley, sister Lorretta Hurley and sister-in-law Mary Ann Hurley.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years John P. Kearney, her daughter Kathleen Tennant and son Patrick Kearney as well as her brothers Lawrence Hurley and Joseph Hurley, sisters Mary Ellen Hardesty and Lorraine Hurley, and sister-in-law Mary Catherine Hurley.
A visitation will be held at St. Mary of the Mills Church, Laurel on Thursday, February 4th from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
