Evelyn Knight Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY OF EVELYN IRENE KNIGHT

Evelyn Irene Knight was born on December 28, 1937 and departed this life on May 10, 2020 (Mother’s Day). She was the daughter of Bessie Mae Swindell and LeRoy Exum. Evelyn was raised by her devoted grandparents, the late Jesse and Dora Gibson.

She was born in LaGrange, NC and moved to New York along with her sisters, Darlene and Norma Gibson. While in New York, Evelyn met and married Samuel Knight. They later relocated to Silver Spring, MD and then to Laurel, MD. Evelyn worked for United Parcel Services (UPS) for several years until she retired. Evelyn and Sam joined Woodside United Methodist Church in Silver Spring, MD in 2001 where they both served.

Evelyn was very smart, full of wisdom and knowledge. Her favorite pastime was reading novels, paperbacks and the Sunday newspaper. She frequently visited her local library to check out books. She was probably the only ‘Library Friend’ left. She loved watching the old western TV shows and the soap operas. Let’s not forget sports. ‘Are you ready for some football?’. She knew the sport inside and out. She was a diehard NY Mets fan.

She was the best cook ever and it blessed her to see how much others enjoyed her food. She also enjoyed going out to eat with friends and family. Her favorite restaurants were Olive Grove and Red Lobster.

Evelyn loved and cherished her grandchildren and her great grandson Kal’El, who brought her much laughter. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Knight, her son, David Lee Gibson and her 2 sisters, Darlene Gibson and Norma Gibson, 2 brothers, William and Eugene Exum and her nephew, Arnold Gibson.  Evelyn leaves to her loving memories: daughter Stephanie (Leon) Muse, Maryland; 2 grand-daughters, Jessamyn and Briana Muse, 2 great-grandchildren, Kal’El and Jasmia; 2 sisters, Sylvia(Mack) McEachin of Virginia; Cynthia(Mike) Kelly, North Carolina; her niece Bessie (Wendell) Harts, Kentucky and nephew Anthony Gibson , New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends(Kathie, Loree, Beteen)
