Helen Christine Jones

Helen C. Jones passed away in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the age of 72.  Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of LeRoy E. and A. Katharine (Diering) Jones. 

Having lived in Baltimore her entire life, she attended schools in the local school system and graduated from Western High School.  She then attended The University of Maryland, College Park where she earned a BS degree in Elementary Education.  As she began her teaching career in Baltimore County Public Schools, she continued her education by attending Johns Hopkins University, obtaining two Master Degrees, one in special education and the other in gifted and talented programs.  Her next choice of a career led her to the National Aquarium in Baltimore where she worked for Volunteer Services.  A third career choice led her to the continuing education division at Carroll Community College.  She also was a choral member and board member of The Handel Choir of Baltimore.

After retiring, Helen continued her interest in learning by attending the Renaissance Institute at Notre Dame College, both as a student and an instructor.  She also joined the Orokawa Y in Towson, Md. where she took aquatic classes.  Her continued love of the Arts saw her attending performances at Center Stage and Everyman Theatre.  She loved the Metropolitan Opera and continued to attend via live-streamed performances at local theaters.  Helen cherished friendships and continued to have gatherings with friends she had made along life’s path, from elementary school friends to those at the Y.

An important part of her life were her two cats, better known as “her boys”.  Oscar and Nathaniel brought her so much joy and she cared for them lovingly.  She also found pleasure in helping family and friends and was always available when needed.

Helen is survived by her sister, Katharine J. Cobert, several cousins, and the many friends she met on her life journey.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Louisa Rogers and her brother, Allan Jones.

Services and interment are private.
