On September 22, 2021, James R. Lott, Sr. transitioned into eternal life.
James was born on November 20, 1939 in Washington, D.C. to Willie and Elease Lott. He was the firstborn of three children and a surrogate brother to his many cousins, including Ora Lott Dean, M.C. Mobley, Pierpont Mobley, and Eugene “Skippy” Lott.
James was educated in the Washington, D.C. public school system where he attended Armstrong High School. After high school, he began his government service, first joining the United States Navy. His career also included a stint as an electrician, a U.S. Postal Service employee, and an assignment at Andrews Air Force Base. James served many years with the non-profit Blacks In Government® where he was a lifetime member. His final career assignment was at the U.S. Navy Yard where he retired in 1997.
James was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sonia R. Lott. He is survived by five children, James R. Lott, Jr., Sheryl L. Scott, Carla J. Jackson, Jamie R. Lott, and Samantha L. Hawkins; 11 grandchildren, Anitra Hiers, Corey Lott, NaTanya Lott, Ashley Patterson, Breanne Hardy, Brendan Johnson, Jada Lott, Paige Lott, Lloyd Hawkins III, Jordan Lott, and Jalenchase Lott; eight great grandchildren, Ayana, Kiyana, and Amir Hiers, Caleb and Cadence Lott, Jayla and Jaxon Hardy, and Aiden James Lott; and a host of extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. in Laurel, MD.
