Jane McGettrick Obituary

Jane Losty McGettrick, 89, passed away peacefully in her home on December 6, 2020.

Jane was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of James Ambrose Losty and Genevieve Larkin Losty.  She lived in several states growing up, but spent most of her life prior to marriage in Scranton, Pennsylvania, graduating from Marywood College.  Her first full-time job after college was writing radio and television advertisements for a local station, but most of her career was spent teaching elementary school.  She spent over 20 years teaching kindergarten at Montpelier Elementary school in Laurel, Maryland, retiring in 1997.  Since then she has split her time between her Laurel home and her home in Englewood, Florida, where she appreciated the warmer winter weather.

Jane is survived by her six children: Jane (Peter), Mark (Nancy), Michael (Saida), Matthew (Esperanza), Elizabeth (Fred), Peter (Deneen), her 12 grandchildren: Ashley, Morgan (Josh), Mary (Alex), David, Anna, Yasmeen, Amir, Nicholas, Joseph, Bridget, Ellie, Reese and her two great grandchildren: Grayson and Ashlynn, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank McGettrick (2015), her older brother, Jim (1995) and her parents.

Jane had many things she enjoyed doing: decorating her homes, reading (murder mysteries were her favorite), doing jigsaw puzzles (500 piece maximum, please), gardening and feeding and watching the birds in her backyard, as well as feeding hotdogs to the Wood Storks at her back door in Florida.  Jane also loved visiting with her children and maybe even more so seeing and talking to her grandchildren.
