John Jeffrey Phares

Jeff was born on March 22, 1959 in Rockville, MD.  Son of John Frederick Phares and Virginia (Ginny) Laura Phares. He grew up in Rockville, MD and moved to Laurel, MD as an adult. 

Jeff was a DJ in Rehoboth, Delaware in his early 20s while going to college and worked at Giant grocery store. After he graduated college, he started working at GENRAD as a Field Service Engineer and worked there for 20 years, he also worked at SIEMENS for a short time, followed by American Science Engineering for 19 years before retiring in 2021. 

He was a great loving husband to Rita and a loving dad to Arthur, Clark, Andy and Merrill; son-in-law to Lucrecia and Luis Alfredo; brother to Jody and Greg Gillum, Ana and Chris Lewis, Luis Monroy, Manuel Monroy and Monica Obregon; uncle to Jessica, Zach, Christina, Matthew, Fiona, Christian, Alejandro and Valeria; nephew to Marlene Cullember, Darlene Collins, Charlotte Phares and Gracie Phares and William Phares; and many cousins who were dear to him.

His hobbies include Turkey Shoot on Sundays and Bingo caller on Tuesdays at the Laurel Elks Lodge, Volunteer at the American Legion. Jeff was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 2283 Laurel, MD, College Park Moose Lodge 453, and American Legion Post 60.  He also loved to grow vegetables and tend to his garden. He was a fixer upper of anything electronic or computerized. 

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Virginia (Ginny) Phares, and Uncles Tom Phares, Donald Phares, Jim Phares, Robert Phares and Aunts Charleann Phares.

Services will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 12pm at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., in Laurel, Maryland; family will start receiving friends at 11 AM.

Following the service a remembrance of his life and gathering of friends and family will be hosted at the Laurel Elks Lodge.
