Justin Chappell, 42, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away on September 9, 2021.
He was born in 1978 to Gerald Chappell and Jean Chappell of Laurel, Maryland. He was raised in Laurel and moved to Silver Spring as an adult.
Justin worked as a consultant for nonprofit organizations and he worked on political causes. Justin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Catholic University in 2001. He was a White House intern during the Clinton administration and he later served as a legislative correspondent for Senator Tom Harkin for a few years.
Justin enjoyed following political campaigns and news stories. He attended the Democratic National Convention twice as a delegate and ran as a candidate for several local positions. Additionally, he was a long-time board member of the Montgomery County Renters’ Alliance. When Justin was not following politics, he was following baseball. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles. With his husband, Ben, he also traveled throughout the country, visiting over forty states.
Justin is survived by his husband, Ben Spangenberg, his parents, Gerald and Jean Chappell, and his siblings, Danielle Chappell (Karl Adler), Greg Chappell (Michelle Chappell), and Courtney Chappell (Dan Hadley), as well as two nieces and three nephews. He is also survived by his cats, Dolly, Madison, and James.
Justin was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Doris Rooker and Mozelle Chappell.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 15th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707. The funeral service will be on Friday, September 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home.
