Leo L. Emery

Leo Lloyd Emery, age 86, of Laurel, MD, passed away on September 28, 2016.  He is survived by Joyce Emery, his wife of 64 years.  He is survived by children Lynnda, Randall (Cathy), Marshall (Cindy), Derek (Gayre), and Matthew (Julie). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one grandchild and seven siblings.

Mr. Emery was raised in upstate New York, attended Hartwick College and graduated from Syracuse University.  He served in the United States Air Force and as a civilian at the National Security Agency.  He was a graduate of the National War College.  After his 25 year career in federal service, Leo continued with the family art supply and framing businesses on a fulltime basis.  His last business, The Laurel Art Center, closed in 2012.

Leo was active in community service activities for over 50 years.  He was a member of Laurel Kiwanis Club and served as President.  Mr. Emery served as Athletic Director of the Laurel Boys and Girls Club and received the Man of the Year Award.  He coached several boys and girls teams including football, basketball, and softball in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  An outdoorsman, he collected waterfowl stamps and art and was an avid gardener.

Services are scheduled at the Donaldson Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.  Funeral service is scheduled on Monday, October 3, 2016 beginning at 1:00 PM.  Interment will follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Laurel, MD.
