Leslie Davies Obituary

Leslie (Les) Derek Davies, a mechanical engineer and world traveler that most recently called Sarasota, FL his home, died unexpectedly on April 29, 2021 at the age of 90.

Les is survived by his sisters Betty Caron and Shirley Wilson; his daughter Lynnae Sauvage, his step-daughters Lisa Bracken, Lori DeThomas and Lynn Holdren; his grandchildren Shaun, Kristina, Neil, Jason, Heather, Evan, Trevor, Deanna, Ruben, Lynnette, Eric and Crystal.  He is predeceased by his parents Harry and Annie Davies, his wife Delia (Dee) Davies, and his son Carl Davies.

Les was born in Runcorn, England on September 6, 1930 to Harry and Annie Davies.  He served in the British Army during the Suez Canal Crisis before returning to England to earn a degree in mechanical engineering from Warrington Technical College.  Les ultimately left England in pursuit of a better life for his family, becoming a citizen of the United States of America in 1967.  His engineering career with PPG Industries ultimately led to a transfer to Puerto Rico to assist with a novel chemical plant.  It was here that he met the love of his life Dee, to whom he attributed his best years prior to her death.

Les was an avid explorer during his lifetime.  He lived in many different places including England, Sierra Leone and various parts of the United States including Hawaii, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico.  He adventured in the natural world as an avid hiker and never missed a weekend of tennis or golf.  He always maintained a healthy lifestyle and competed as a sprinter in the senior Olympics.  He remained a devoted father and grandfather and was always good for a round of cards and a gin and tonic “mixed just so in an extra tall glass with two limes.”  He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.

A funeral service is scheduled for May 15, 2021 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church on 522 Main St, Laurel, MD at 11 am. Please send any donation to the ASPCA in lieu of flowers, as animals were always Les’ priority.
