Lloyd Cravener Obituary

Lloyd "Bud" H. Cravener, Jr., 76, of Berkeley Springs, WV passed away on May 19, 2021.  Born on December 28, 1944 to Esther and Lloyd Cravener, Sr. in Vandergrift, PA.  Bud was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a loyal friend.

Bud graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1962, and then joined the United States Air Force.  He was stationed in Turkey and then Ft. Meade in Maryland.  Upon his discharge he was hired by NSA where he stayed until his retirement in 1999.  Mr. Cravener had a very successful career as an analyst and his work is memorialized in the National Cryptological Museum on the National Security Agency grounds.  He was also a two-time recipient of the Civilian Merit Award.  Upon retirement, using his favorite hobby, Bud started Sundaze Construction which soon became one of the most successful framing companies in the Oceanview, DE area.  He enjoyed his new career and even built his own home there where his family and friends made many wonderful memories.

Lloyd was also and active volunteer at the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad (1966-1976) and served as Duty Chief on Monday nights and Saturday morning radio dispatcher.  Bud has over 1500 runs to his credit with 500 coming his first year.

Never one to stay still he decided to retire "again", to Berkeley Springs, WV this time.  He loved the remote and quiet life the small town had to offer.  Bud continued to find new ways to practice his woodworking skills and began to make smaller projects.  He found great satisfaction in making gifts for all his friends and family.  If we could dream it up he could make it!  Many people will remember him by glancing around their own homes seeing things they were gifted by this wonderful and generous man.

Bud is survived by his loving daughters Kelly (Mark) Hax-Fell and Kimberly (Richard) Champagne-Settles; two stepsons Stephen (Camille) Piscitelli and Gene (Kaye) Piscitelli; his beloved grandchildren Jordan (Tad) Nicholson and Connor Hax, Melissa Fell and Kari Bailey, Tyler (Danielle) Champagne, Bailey (Daniel) Champagne, Sydney Champagne, Danielle and Vincent Piscitelli, Sarah, Michael and Joseph Piscitelli and his treasured great-grandchildren Waylon, Dylan and Nolan Nicholson; Jackson, Gracie and Jameson Champagne; his sister Beverly (Keith) Lillywhite, along with his niece Nicole Lillywhite, various cousins and countless friends. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend Natalie Zanolli.  He was preceded in death by his wife Joy Canino Cravener; his parents Esther and Lloyd Cravener Jr. and his niece Lisa Self.  Lloyd is also survived by his beloved chocolate lab Brewser.
