On Friday, October 29, 2021, Maurice L. Harding, aka “Moose” loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 86.
Maurice was born on June 17, 1935 in Fairland, Maryland to Harold and Marian Harding. On February 18, 1955, he married Charlotte Pritchard and together they raised four children. Maurice received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Strayer University which he used to secure a job with the US government. He happily retired in 2000.
Maurice was a man of a quiet nature and very humble means. He found great joy in gardening, and beautifying his yard. His beloved golden retrievers were spoiled beyond belief, and never found themselves in need of love or belly rubs. Maurice was a devout and dedicated member of the Freemasons (Laurel Wreath Lodge #149), and he was incredibly proud of his 60 year dedication commemoration. Finding himself just the teeniest bit bored in his retirement, Maurice found a way to pass his spare time by taking up the position of Secretary & Treasurer for Ivy Hill Cemetery: a job in which he found much fulfillment and pride. Maurice also loved local sports teams, and was rarely seen without an Orioles hat atop his head (unless it was Sunday morning and he was in attendance at the First United Methodist Church of Laurel where he was a faithful and adoring member). He will always be remembered for his kind smile, his nervous giggles, and his unfailing kindness.
Maurice was preceded in death by his father, Harold, his mother, Marian, and his brother, Alvin. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, his children (Carol, Sandy, Johnny, and Susan), his grandchildren (Kenny, Kristin, Ryan, and Molly), as well as five great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 1st, from 6pm - 8pm; with a Masonic service starting at 7pm. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd at 2pm at Donaldson’s Funeral Home. Internment will take place on Friday, November 5th at 2:30pm at Ivy Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care.
