Rose Cocimano Obituary

Rose Mary Cocimano passed away peacefully on March 27, 2020. Born July 22, 1929 to Rosalino Cocimano and Mary Elsie Brown-Cocimano, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Philip Cocimano (Suzanne) and sister, Theresa Cocimano-Betthauser (Robert). She is survived by her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Fredericks (Dan) and her beloved grandniece, Jamie Boyd (Lucas), whom she raised with great pride to become an educator, business woman and mother to three thriving children. She also leaves to mourn many other loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Rose Mary graduated Valedictorian from Dunbarton College of Holy Cross where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. She continued on to receive her Master’s Degree from The Catholic University of America; both located in Washington, D.C.

As a devout Catholic, Rose Mary pursued perpetual vows with the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago, but later decided to forego solemn vows to instead serve in laity.  Thereafter, she dedicated her life to the Church and her beloved family. She worked as a supervisor with the Library of Congress prior to retiring in 1995.

Rose Mary served an integral role in the care and upbringing of her many nieces and nephews whose lives were deeply enriched through her selfless dedication and sacrifice.  Her loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

The Salutation To The Dawn

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of beauty
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow only a vision
But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore to this day!
Such is the salutation to the dawn.

- Kalidasa, Indian Poet
