Sandra Lee “Sandy” Schrader died unexpectedly in her Laurel, Maryland home on March 21, 2020 at the age of 45. Sandy was born in Washington, DC on June 26, 1974 to David L. Schrader, Sr. and Sylvia Lou Bortner Schrader. She was also welcomed by her two older brothers, David and Daniel.
Sandy graduated from Smithsburg High School in Smithsburg, Maryland; received her BA in Elementary Education from Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; and held two master’s degrees: her first in Elementary Reading and Literacy, the second in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment - both from Walden University.
Sandy had so many talents and defining passions, obviously teaching, but also Washington Redskins football, and her beloved puggle, Bailey-Jean. In her 18-year teaching career in Prince George’s Public Schools, she touched and shaped innumerable lives. Most of those years were spent teaching second grade and eventually fourth grade math and science at Ridgecrest Elementary School in Prince George’s County.
She was predeceased by her father, Rev. David L. Schrader, Sr. She is survived by her mother, Sylvia Bortner Schrader, her brothers David Luther Schrader, Jr and Daniel Orem Schrader, and their wives Rebecca and Jewel.
Sandy was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Laurel, Maryland, where there will be a celebration of her life. Details will be announced later.
Her life is being honored through “Ms. Schrader’s Memorial Holiday Pajama and Book Fund,” Ridgecrest Elementary School. Checks should be made out to Memorial Lutheran Church, designated SCHRADER MEMORIAL, and mailed to Memorial Lutheran Church; 34 E. Orange St; Shippensburg, PA 17257.
