Stephen "Steve" MacDonald Obituary

Stephen B. MacDonald (Steve) 64, of Laurel, MD left this Earth on May 9th, 2021 at P.G. Hospital Center.

He was born on December 21st, 1956 in Maryland, the son of the late Ian Brian MacDonald & Gertude Sophia MacDonald.

Steve was raised on Whiskey Bottom Road & graduated high school in 1974 from Atholton High School. There he met his wife, Brenda & they wed in May of 1976. He then went on to work as an engineer at both Maryland Virginia Milk Producers & East Coast Ice Cream Novelties.

In May of 1981 he had a terrible motorcycle accident which left him a paraplegic & confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Unable to hold a full time job he decided to open his own welding shop out of his garage in Laurel.

MacDonald's Welding & Repair Shop was established in 1986 & soon became a household name around town as being known as the "guy in the wheelchair" doing welding, car repairs, lawnmower repairs - all from his chair. Not only was he reasonable, he was quick & an expert at what he did.

Steve battled health issues throughout his life with multiple surgeries & hospital stays - but he always came back to work & never let anything get him down.

When Steve wasn't working for money, he was working for fun. He was a member of CALS (Chesapeake Allegheny Live Steamers) in Leakin Park, MD. He built from scratch in his garage all the parts from blueprints to build a small locomotive and a full size locomotive big enough to pull people around a track. He was in the works of completing his 3rd locomotive the highly coveted: Big Boy.

He was also a member of the ELKS Lodge in Laurel, enjoyed visiting NASCAR tracks across the US & watching the Ravens play every Sunday.

He was a very proud father of his daughter & Daddy's Little girl, Sarah. They enjoyed watching Jeopardy & going to trivia together.

Being a Laurel native he was known by many and respected by more. Over the years he mentored many kids, he was always willing to teach & help anyone.

Steve is survived by his wife of 45 years Brenda, his daughter Sarah, his half-brother Mike Sullivan & wife Daphine & 2 nieces of California. Steve was a wonderful son-in-law to Juanita Bishop & he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Billy Bishop.

Visitation will be at 11 am 5/22/21 followed by the service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulton, MD. Procession to follow at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.
