Tula Long Obituary

Tula Long (Logan), 92, went to be with the Lord on November 24th, 2019.

She was born March 12th, 1927 to Charles Logan Sr. and Beanie Logan (Rowe) in Ariton, Alabama.  Tula grew up on her family’s farm amongst her parents and 5 siblings.  In 1945, she was selected from her high school graduating class to go to Washington, D.C. to work for the FBI in the fingerprinting department.  She met her husband in D.C. and they went on to have five children.  Tula retired from Montgomery Wards in Capital Plaza in 1983.  After retiring, she spent many years doing child care.  She tended to families in the Greenbelt and Laurel areas, as well as caring for several of her grandchildren.  She was affectionately called Mum-Mum and Mema by her grandchildren as well as the children she cared for over many years.

Tula was a long-time resident of Greenbelt, Maryland, from 1952-1988.  There, she raised five children:  Gwendolyn Long (Nickolson) of Pueblo, CO, Linda Long (Wampler) of Laurel, MD, Charles Long (Dave) of Seaford, DE, William H. Long (Billy) of Lauder Hill, FL, and Larry Logan Long of Alexandria, VA.

She is survived by all five children, and her grandchildren:  Kenneth D. Nickolson, Kelly S. Nickolson, Charles D. Long Jr., Amanda M. Lowery (Long), and Brandi J. Johnson (Long), and step-granddaughter Chrissy Caparella.  Tula is also survived by her 7 great grandchildren.  Her unborn great-great-granddaughter to Nick and Loan Schwenk, of Pueblo, CO. is to be born in early March 2020.

Tula is also survived by two brothers Charles R. Logan (Butch) and sister-in-law Edna Earl Logan of Dothan, AL, and brother Bill Logan, of New Brockton, AL.

Preceded in death by:  her parents:  Beanie Logan (Rowe) and Charles Logan, life-long residents of Ariton, AL, brothers Elmer Logan, and Hayward Logan.  Also, sister Mabel Harden; sister-in-law Jane Logan and Florine Logan, brother-in-law, Bill Harden, and her son-in-law James Wampler.

Tula spent her entire life loving and caring for her family, close friends, and neighbors.  She gave her “all”.  She was an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and would have soon been a great-great grandmother. She loved all of her family, reaching out to keep in touch with her brothers, sister, cousins and even friends she had gone to high school with. She never knew a stranger. She touched the lives of many people, who considered her a second Mom.

There are no words to describe the love and goodness in her heart. As a constant in our lives for so many years, we were blessed to have her with us. She is greatly missed but we know she will live on in each of us. Thank you all for your prayers. We are thankful that she is at peace and with God now.

Cremation has taken place; her family will spread her ashes on the Logan Family farm in Alabama late next spring.
