William Dehn Obituary

William “Bill” Dehn, a remarkable NIH Glassblower known around the world for his exceptional ingenuity, technical prowess and scientific contributions, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023. He was also renown for his incredibly brilliant sense of humor which was an integral part of his character. His jokes and anecdotes will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing in his laughter.

He was born on July 31, 1937, and for more than 66 years, he shared a beautiful journey of life and love with his beloved wife, Betsy Dehn. Bill’s gifts live on through his daughters, Barbara Boswell and Michele Field, and he was a proud grandfather to Jennifer Boswell, Michael Boswell, Sierra Field, and Savannah Field.

Bill was a cherished sibling to Skip Kiklowicz, Robert Kiklowicz, Edward Kiklowicz, and Elaine Kiklowicz Habalou and Sharon Dehn. His warm and caring nature extended to his many nieces and nephews, who were lucky to have him in their lives.

Bill’s passion for science and precision craftsmanship left an indelible mark on the scientific community, and his humor was as finely crafted as the glass instruments he so expertly designed. His quick wit and clever jokes were a source of constant laughter for his family, friends, and colleagues.

Bill also had a deep affection for animals. His expertise and love for animals touched the hearts of many, and provided a rich and diverse experience as he cared for a wide range of unique creatures.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, laughter, and inventiveness that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a simple man whose humility and down-to-earth nature endeared him to everyone he met.

A memorial service to honor Bill’s life, love, and the levity he shared with us will be held at Donaldson’s Funeral home located at 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707 on Sunday, October 22nd at 2pm .
