Frank A. Mills, Sr.

Frank A. Mills, Sr. entered the heavenly kingdom of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, October 9, 2016, with his wife and children at his bedside. Frank died from complications of a surgical procedure to address diverticulitis.

Frank was born in Bucksport, Maine, January 31, 1939, the son of Frank A. and Elizabeth M. Mills. Frank was raised in New England where he lived in Maine and Massachusetts before his parents settled in Bristol, Connecticut. Frank joined the United States Army after high school in 1960, from which he retired in 1980. While in the Army, he was stationed in Berlin, Germany during the Berlin crisis where he watched the Berlin Wall being built. He served in Vietnam Nam during the Vietnam War. Tokyo, Japan was his last overseas assignment. He enjoyed serving at various United States Army posts, including Fort Lewis, Washington State, Fort Meade, Maryland and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the post from which he retired. At Fort Bragg, Frank was involved in the printing of Pro-American leaflets that were dropped over Iran during the American hostage crisis. Frank joined the United States Federal Civil Service where he enjoyed a successful career with the Fort Meade Directorate of Logistics, where he retired in 1997. Frank received many awards, including three monetary awards for Meritorious Service for his work in support of military troops during the first Iraqi War.

Frank enjoyed all sports, baseball being his favorite followed closely by basketball. He was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan, often saying how much he enjoyed watching his favorite player, Ted Williams, play, and how grateful he was to have seen him play. Frank was as loyal to the Boston Celtics, with Bill Russell his favorite player. The New York Giants, Maryland Terrapins Basketball and Notre Dame Football were also among his favorite teams. He watched as many televised games as he could.

Mourning Frank's passing are his wife of 46 years, Kristie (nee McWilliams), son Gregory M. Mills, his wife Rachel, and Frank's grandson, the light of his life, Madden; daughter Alice Monroe and her husband, Paul; sister-in-law Gail McWilliams Vogel; brother-in-law George F. (Buddy) McWilliams, Jr.; niece Leslie Clark Reese, her husband Chip, great nieces Abigail and Carolyn Reese; nephew George F. (Mickey) McWilliams III, and brother John Mills. Frank was predeceased by his parents, sister Aubigne Fortier; brother Charles Mills, and his beloved, loyal and faithful Greyhound, Cleo, who will be buried with him.

Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. will host Frank's burial arrangements with a visitation on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 7 until 9 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home's chapel on Friday, October 14, at 11 am. Interment will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
